After passing Seattle we took a little side trip to Camano Island in Puget Sound. Here the view is looking east. The mountain in the distance is Mount Baker in the Cascade Range.

Here is the view looking west across Whidbey Island --mountains in the distance are the Olympic Range on the Olympic Peninsula.

Back on the road we stopped in La Conner, which is obviously a destination for day trippers from Seattle. I have no idea what the history here is, BUT there are lots of little boutiques and galleries that are based in New York City (!) and La Conner. One the channels runs in back of the town. There are a lot of farms in the area now (strawberries are sold everywhere) but my bet is the first industry was logging.
